Peridance Center, one of the giants of Ballet and Modern Dance in the heart of New York City for over 25 years, is partnering with BAILA Society, the pioneers of NY Salsa instruction online and the largest and most comprehensive dance video library worldwide, with students in over 45 countries ranging from beginners to professionals. Peridance will become the official home of BAILA Society Dance Company when the center moves to its new state of the art dance space near Union Square in the summer of 2009, with BASo running a full suite of NY Salsa and Latin Dance classes, including body movement, footwork, partnerwork, spinning, music theory, stretching/conditioning and performance classes. Ahead of the move to the new space, starting on Friday, April 10th 2009, BAILA Society will hold their popular Friday classes for NY Salsa footwork, spinning and port-de-bras at Peridance's current location. The class is open to the public and will follow BASo's unique teaching methodology, including multiple teachers for basic, beginner and intermediate dancers as well as video instruction of each combination. The class marks another revolution in dance, the fusion of ballet and modern dance with a sophisticated style of NY Salsa that emphasizes classical training and technique while staying true to the improvisational nature and African roots of the dance. Igal Perry, Founder and Artistic Director of Peridance, has been a visionary and ambassador of dance for a long time, and in discussions with BASo Founding Partner Daniel Enskat decided it was time to bring together the worlds of ballet, modern and Latin dance. "For a long time we have been searching for a Salsa Company with a professional, progressive approach to collaborate with, in order to introduce Salsa and Latin dance at the highest level into our curriculum", said Artistic director Igal Perry, "We found that and more in BAILA Society!" Igal Perry and his team are both amazing artists as well as humble and unique human beings and we believe our shared vision will result in a wonderful partnership on many different levels." Both believe the partnership is the beginning of a new movement, starting with a beautiful artistic exchange between the dancers of Peridance and BAILA Society, from the class room to the hallways, to Union Square, New York City and the world. What does this mean for our students? * From now on, all of our Friday classes will be held at Peridance's Union Square location. Full class descriptions * Peridance will continue to honor BASo class cards, for BASo classes only.
